A: A Domain Name is a unique internet name for your site (i.e. www.WetaskiwinOnline.com). Once someone has registered a domain name no one else in the world is allowed to copy the entire name exactly (Kind of like a telephone number). If you want one of these unique names you need to first check to see if the name you wish is available, and then, if still available, apply to register it for yourself. This can all be done in one step.
Names which end in .com are rapidly being taken ( at a present rate of approximately 10,000 per week). Names which end in .net or .org are more available. If you are considering registering a domain name and one you like is still available, it may be prudent to grab it while you can.
The going rate for Domain Name registration is about $35.00 (U.S.) per year. The prime provider for this service is a company called NetworkSolutions, but there are others as well. I recently discovered a company right in Edmonton who does the same thing for $13.50 (U.S) per year. CLICK HERE if you would like to check these vendors out.
Domain Names can also be worth some money if you are lucky enough to own one someone else prizes and is willing to buy from you. CLICK HERE to get an idea of how this works.
Should you get your own Domain Name your internet address would be something like www.YourDomainName.com.
Should you choose the option of having your site hosted in the WetaskiwinOnline site, your internet address might look something like www.WetaskiwinOnline.com/YourCompanyName (example).
