QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT RALCOMM WIRELESS HIGH-SPEED INTERNET SERVICE

    1. How much faster is this wireless service than a dialup phone connection?

As a general rule, you can expect it to be somewhere around 30 times faster. For example, a web page that take 30 seconds to load on 56K dialup would load in around 1 second on high-speed wireless.

    2. What extra equipment do I need to buy to get hooked up?

The cost is site specific but normally runs between $200 and $600.
You will need an antenna, a special radio and some coaxial cable.
Extra items can alter the cost. Examples include extra cable, extra hardware or a tower needed to move or raise the antenna (i.e. - due to trees or hills), optionally hooking up an internal network, etc.
      Phone 352-4077 for an estimate.

    3. How complicated is installation?

The installation process is simple. One of our experienced installers will travel to your home or business to set up your high-speed connection.
Once it is installed, our representative will help get you comfortable with your new system and answer any questions you may have.
      Self installation also is possible.

    4. How would I hook several computers through the one connection?

Normally you would just need to additionally purchase a "router" and some extra lengths of cable. You would connect each of the computers to the router, and the router would then be connected to the radio.
We also carry and install these items.

    5. Can you also set up a wireless local network to work between my buildings?

Yes. We also provide wireless networking solutions between buildings, offices, etc. which can give all buildings on your site access to your own internal network.

    6. Is the high-speed wireless service accessible everywhere in the County of Wetaskiwin?

      Not at the present time.
Two things are essential for connecting with one of our towers:

      1) You must be within the range of the tower's signal. (Usually this is between 5 and 10 miles)
      2) Your antenna must have a clear, unimpeded line-of-sight path to the tower antenna.

Trees, hills and buildings can prevent the signal from getting through. In some cases a customer antenna may need to be moved a distance or elevated to gain a clear line-of-sight path. This would incur extra cost.
Unfortunately, in certain cases, the cost can be too high to justify the high-speed wireless service.

    7. Where is service available right now?

At the present time we have towers at the present locations:

      - In Wetaskiwin, serving a radius surrounding Wetaskiwin
      - Lansdowne Park, 6 miles due north of Wetaskiwin
      - 12 miles south-west of Wetaskiwin, reaching Hobbema, Usona and west of Wetaskiwin

    8. If I am not in range of a wireless tower what can I do?

The best would be to contact other people in your vicinity who may be interested. Once an area has enough people interested in subscribing to make installing a tower economically feasible we will be only too glad to put one in.

A second alternative we can offer is LINCSAT (connection via satellite). This is more expensive and not as fast as our high-speed wireless service, but is still considerably faster than dialup.
